RALEIGH, N.C. (May 30, 2008)– A last minute decision to go fishing with his mother netted a 13-year-old from Rocky Mount a new freshwater fish state record.

Travis Jackson reeled in a 4-pound, 15-ounce redear sunfish from a private pond in Edgecombe County on May 19, using a worm as bait. The fish measured 15 1/16 inches in length and 18 1/8 inches in girth.

Bonefish Dreams
Friday, 27 June 2008
For a few of us, the dream goes like this: big uneducated bonefish in a perfect setting, no people or jet skis on an endless hard gleaming white flat. Punctuate this scene with beautiful hawksbill turtles, fairy terns and blue crabs the size of a dinner plate. Imagine the bonefish to be so naive that they would eat a bare hook. Picture giant black and silver fish the size of a semi truck tire so intent on eating that you can’t swim in the water. Visualize grouper and snapper so plentiful that a fly in the water is eaten within twenty seconds. Grouper on poppers? Yes! Bonefish to twenty pounds? Sure! Giant Trevally over one hundred pounds? Better have a big stick!

TEXAS FLY FISHING NEWS FISHING REPORT

Wind is still a big factor along the coast; bass are excellent in the East Texas creeks

If the wind would let up just a little bit fly fishing might be a whole lot more user friendly. It’s been especially rough on coastal anglers, where finding tailing reds has been more than tough.
Usually by this time of year action along the coast is red hot for fly fishers. But the only reports we’re getting are from guides thinking about going into the kite flying business.
Fishing has been especially tough at Port O’Connor where fly fishers are looking to run the bays looking for surface feeding jacks and tarpon.
The wind can’t blow forever, and when it calms down look for coastal fishing to be red hot.
Bass fishing on the creeks has been excellent in East Texas. One of the best reports is from East Texas on Village Creek. That’s where the water level is perfect and the bass fishing is great on No. 4 sliders in bone and chartreuse.
Here’s what’s happening across Texas:

Trout Unlimited message from Chris Wood
Friday, 13 June 2008
My son, Wylie, graduated from pre-kindergarten this week.  After the ceremony (which Wylie opted to observe from the audience), he whispered, "Dad, can we go fishing now?"  So, in nearly 100 degree heat, we set out to the C and O Canal in Washington, D.C., where fat mulberries fall to fatter carp.  On my third cast, a bruiser fish sipped a mulberry pattern.  I set the hook.  Then, I handed the rod to Wylie, and watched the fun.  "We got him, Dad.  We got him!"  His combination of wonder and determination was perfect.
