On July 11 a Zapata County game warden and a Webb Country game warden were patrolling Falcon Lake when they noticed a Mexican boat enter Texas waters and set out gill nets. The Mexican boat finished setting their nets and headed north out of sight. Both game wardens decided to follow them to see where they were going. In stripping or retrieval there are several variables which are worth noting. All prey do not move in the same way, nor does a particular specie move the same way under all circumstances. Most baitfish move with repetitive bursts of speed separated by very short periods of gliding. Dumb and dumber? Oh yea! Thou shall not gill net trout and reds! Efficient, maybe; legal — not really — A Brazoria County game warden recently filed on two idiots for taking fish by illegal means and methods. The two men had set a gill net along the south shoreline of Christmas Bay. A wade fisherman ran across the net while he was fishing and reported it to the game wardens. The two suspects were located relaxing in a nearby duck blind, and were in possession of an ice chest full of fish, including several redfish and speckled trout, already taken from the net. Cases pending. |

The Uniknot . 1. Pass the line through the eye and form a loop. 2. Bring the end back on itself, passing it under the doubled part. 3.Make four or five loops over the doubled part. 4.Pull the end to form the knot. 5. Slide the pulled knot to the eye of the knot or swivel. |

This simple and small, flashy fly is designed to imitate Atlantic silversides or glass minnows. They look better in the water than the real thing! I tie them on Gamakatsu Octopus hooks, size 1/0 in this example. |
